The First Age

We all know something sleeps within humanity.  We eat up the legends: vampires, werewolves, superheroes.  We seek in dark theaters and we pour through boring tomes; and we secretly wonder if some sliver of the stories is real.  Legends are based on myth after all, and we don’t realize their origins have faded into time.

But time is not a black wasteland of questions.

Time is a wheel

The RP in Tech

An update to our continuing series on our RP in tech blog.

See previous entry here!

This is going to be an image gallery blog post.  So click on the gallery below and scroll through cool images of 2045 technologies described by our writers.

By far, the most common technology described are applications known as Wallets.  They are basically supercomputers + smart phones that project holographic screens into the air around them that may be manipulated by arm, hand, or finger motions.  Wrist bands may be worn to control the screens wirelessly and at a distance.

Transparent glass touchscreens are also commonplace and may be embedded in any type of material.  Workstations are commonly described in homes, offices and planes.

Finally, as opportunities for live-rp'd battles have taken place, both Land Warriors and Lens Warriors (the contact lens version) are often described.  They provide battle analysis views projected on the interior of clear or tinted glasses worn by a soldier or commander.

Taking care of business in Sierra Leone

Two of our writers have devised a plot centering around sudden destabilization of a formerly reliable country in western Africa.  Check it out below, and jump in the plot if you want to get involved!

In recent years, large deposits of rhodium have been discovered in Sierra Leone, Africa.  Before this point, the two major producers of this rare metal have been Russia and South Africa.

Freetown, Sierra Leone

Freetown, Sierra Leone

So, the US and Chinese companies have been aggressively expanding into the Sierra Leonean market, producing modern mines and processing plants, while the CCD has been trying to do the same to maintain control of the rhodium market.

Rhodium is needed to make things like catalytic converters in cars and heavy machinery, as well as a variety of other purposes.  Very valuable market (ballparks at $45,000 a kilo)
Embracing it's long and sordid history of military coups and uprisings, there is another coup.

The president is killed, and the two dominate tribes start duking it out bloody like, attacking civilian targets as everything falls apart.

Military splits down the middle, main hospital in Freetown is destroyed as the badly wounded president is rushed there for treatment after a failed assassination attempt, and things generally go downhill fast.

Then on top of that, Liberia has been eyeballing the resource rich south-east Sierra Leone, and will likely make a move to seize a portion of the country, possibly with the support of the Temni tribe faction.  So it'll be a civil war/invasion.

This has been secretly encouraged by the CCD to assure the rhodium market continues to be almost entirely under their own control.  Destabilizing the region like that would likely lead to a decade or more of unrest, making the region untenable for mining/export.

Legion Premiere

Legion Premiere

Legion Premiere, an independent security company that operates with military-precision, has taken contracts in the region.  This will bring the CEO of the Legion, Jacques, and one of his Legionnaires, Jay, into the thick of the danger.  Meanwhile, Red Cross worker Natalie, a woman with important political connections in the CCD, will also be present.

Tensions rise in Dominance V

It's the week of the Summit.  Tensions within the Dominance are localized to the southern most region, but within the city of Mecca a collective breath has been drawn.  Everyone is waiting to see what will happen when the Ascendancy's initiates attempts for peace and negotiation.

Here is a general summary of what has happened this week:

Monday

Stationed on a CCD base outside Mecca, Michael and Dr. Weston are finalizing their preparations for the week ahead.

Prep

Tuesday morning

CEO of the mercenary Legion Premiere, Jacques, has also arrived to seek permits for bringing the Legion inside Custody borders.  He meets with Dr. Weston.  She has a breakthrough with her research regarding the Sickness.

Tuesday night

While practicing with the Power, Michael is nearly killed by an Ijiraq - a creature of apparent mist that feeds off active connections to the Source like a leech.  He is saved by Dr. Weston, and is rushed into surgery.

Wednesday morning

Nicholas Trano and Julie Reed, the spy that's posing as his assistant, arrive in Mecca.  Nicholas is drawn into a demonstration turned bloody and phones Reed and Jacques, who is staying in the same hotel, for aid.

Something to do

Wednesday evening

Near 7 pm local time, a seven-man, high-profile military team posing as CCD Vegas infiltrates Mecca and attempts to assassinate Al Hasan.  The attempt fails, but  not without massive civilian casualty and an unbelievable fire-fight between Hasan and Andrew Koehler, one of the members of the strike team.  The survivors go on the run while Hasan tends to the wounded.

Direct Action

About an hour later, the Ascendancy's plane touches down.
