The Wheel Weaves A Chance Meeting

The audience finally thinned when the spar finished. Unwilling to suffer polite niceties with Aranea, or worse chance the elder Yellow closing rank with her younger Sister, Faedre lingered at her distance. The training grounds were not a place she came often, at least not for her own reasons. They had always been a popular haunt amongst the most influential of the Accepted, and a good place to soak up gossip in an ambient sort of way. But usually the women knew nothing of much note, unless you were interested in who was sharing whose bed (or wanted to), and the trainees themselves rarely knew anything remotely useful at all.

Her heart did a happy little skip when Kira caught her eye, and she understood the message without much effort. Everything about the Tower had been wrong for so long. It was surprisingly soothing, that small moment of connection. The Amyrlin was dead, the oathrod missing, war hovering on the horizon. But Kira was still Kira. Or so she appeared to be. Faedre lingered for a moment more, watching the man who had been Shiro’s opponent. Her curiosity was concealed, and she couldn’t hear the words spoken, though something in the ease between them curled a little sharp in her stomach. But Kira moved without him, and for that Faedre found herself content.

She suppressed the delight of a small smile, though there was habitually a sweetness even about Faedre’s Aes Sedai serenity, and it probably wouldn’t have looked out of place. Then she went to meet Kira at the indicated place.
