A New Life
#41
MInutes of his life washed away like blood dripping from his palm. Minutes wasted, like their time. The others shuffled, uneasy in the interim. Soon, even Eli ceased studying the broken ice. His gaze sharpened as it wandered. A cold crept through his clothes, but before the disappointment clenched his mind, he plucked his uncle's Wallet from a pocket. To hell with solitude. With helplessness. This was the spot the Americans investigated. Bodies were still frozen along the riverbanks. They had seen something in the water. Elias did not doubt clarity of memory exclaiming the pull he'd sensed. His uncle's data was true to location. While Tony suggested they regroup, Elias agreed, but when he turned away, he spoke a whisper to the waters behind.

"I will see you again."

They returned to the vehicle. A fresh glaze of snow iced the exterior, and Elias frowned when his hand slipped on the frozen handle. Scraping ice was an alien concept, so he chose the easier method.

Melt it.
