Lucien inclined his head when Anton quoted Sherlock Holmes, a small smile on the edges of his lips. Literary references were always quite welcome, and of course this one encapsulated exactly what he had meant. In a world that contained magic, and gifts such as Anton’s own, those limits of possibility grew exponentially. He let Anton work through the conclusions and potentials on his own. This was his journey after all. Lucien was not here to tell him what to think or believe, just to nudge and listen as he worked it through and decided for himself.
“Perhaps only because you were finally listening,” he said, in answer to the age-worn question of why.
He glanced sideways at Theron, aware of how intently the Luminar would be processing the discussion. And how much the revelations might mean to him.
Lucien had been born into the same world of Di Inferi, the progeny of a man searching the mystical realm for the one gift that mattered to him – that mattered to them all, in that world: immortality. But as Lucien had grown from boy to man he had never been confined to one theory or belief, and certainly not by the time he had begun working in earnest for the museum. The Brotherhood's vaults were filled with such items as Lucien found significant from a touch. The chamber beneath the lake at Roopkund had been particularly unusual, and Lucien had no explanation yet as to why. Just guesswork and intuition.
Anton was not the only one making a new journey.
