Liv's leg bounced nervously as she waited. She tried to relax, breathing, take a sip of her water and look around. Just take in the sights and people watch. She didn't need to check her wallet for the time. No. She watched the older couple at the table near her, both lost in their wallets. She'd seen that before. People who were together, and yet lived seperate lives.
She'd never wanted that. She wanted what mother and father had. Oh, sometimes they had to work during meals or there was a movie or show or something they wanted to watch. But they were just as comfortable talking, sharing their day or thoughts or ideas. They genuinely liked each other.
Surely, ten minutes had gone by, right? She could check. Nope. 1 minute. Her leg continued to bounce. She thought about a drink and dismissed it. She didnt need a cloudy head. After another five minutes, she pulled up a novel she was reading. It held her interest well enough, though she fought the urge to check the time even then.
Finally, she put the wallet down and closed her eyes, praying. She felt a slight brush of wind at her cheek, and the relief was palpable. It didn't happen often. But the angel's wing and her warmth, even if just felt at a distance, brought some respite. She would relax into what would happen. No need to control. They were just meeting for a meal.
And opened her eyes and saw Nika there at the door. A smile broke out and she felt happier than she wanted to let on. She raised her hand to get her attention and then stood up. Her head was shaved close. Her eyes were bright and smiling, dimples on her cheeks as cute as could be. She suppressed the thought of kissing them.
She gave Nika a hug- maybe less awkwardly than she felt- and sat down. "It's good to see you, Nika." it felt dumb, but she didnt know what else to say.
