Ivan listened to Dorian's points and thought about them. After a moment, he began. "I can see what you mean. And to honest, I don't know how ijiraq are controlled or do what they do. Maybe the Atharim could do it like you said. Which is fine. Maybe it is rare or hard to make it almost impossible." Remembering how it fed, he shuddered. "I'm sure it is. then again, perhaps Nox or....Oriena? I don't know who that is- perhaps they might have ideas."
He paused again, wanting to avoid sounding adversarial. "I think...I think we need to avoid any and all assumptions, though." Guerro's comment added to the churn of ideas as they swirled in his mind. He had to do something to cut through the noise. They didn't have enough information. He reached for the marker from Guerro, "Can I?" and then went to the white board to where Mirisol did her writing.
He circled 'Ijiraq' and put a dash next to it and wrote 'Can we confirm?'. Not that he doubted, really. His back to them, he studied the board and then spoke aloud as he wrote 'types? classes?'. "Are there different kinds of ijiraq? Do they all do the same thing? Are there other things like them"
He circled 'stalked' and then paused, writing 'Why?'. "This is interesting. Maybe even key, right now. He was stalked. That implies intent. So was the intent to feed and as Guerro said, it went wrong, or was it something else?"
He turned, threading the pen between his fingers, thinking. Then he wrote 'Victimology' and underlined it, before turning back around. "Seems to me that knowing more about the victim is key to this. Was this a random killing or was he killed for a reason? Maybe the ijiraq had a reason? I mean beyond feeding." Another idea tickled his mind.
He looked at Vega. "Do ijiraq stalk? Do we know how they hunt and feed? Do they wait for privacy to act? Let's ignore the Ball as an outlier because it was a hit. In general, are the secretive when feeding? Because if not, then why was it stalking him? If they don't care about when and where they eat, then why follow him around long enough for him to notice?"
He capped the pen and felt the energy leave. He shook his head. "We don't know enough. We can look at the victim. We can and should dig into him. Was there anything special about him. But we need to know things about the ijiraq we just don't have." He looked at Vega. "Think Nox is available for chat? Assuming the comm lines can get through?"
