Marta wasn’t embarrassed that she cried. She had cried in front of both Sterling and Hayden often. Maybe she was a little embarrassed Jackson was seeing it, but she knew he knew about her issues too. He had some of his own too. They told her that she didn’t have to help. There was nothing making her do it. Marta could hear what they meant. Tatyana wasn’t her responsibility, and Marta had to take care of herself first. You can’t pour out from an empty cup.
Marta wanted to help. She really did, but it was hard. At least right now it was. Marta thought that she’d be able to help if she could get the words out. That was the problem. Maybe she couldn’t right now. ”I…” she began to speak, but couldn’t find the words that would adequately explain her inner conflict - the desire to help, but fear of the inability to do so.
She hadn’t let go of Sterling, and she held on a little tighter. She wasn’t feeling guilty about not being sure, but she was feeling a little disappointed in herself. Deep down she knew that now wasn’t the time, and that hurt. It made her feel like a coward. ”I…” her fingers latched on to Sterling’s shirt. She couldn’t even express her frustration right.
