The Wheel Weaves A Chance Meeting
#16
Kira moved towards the indicated area where she knew Faedre would be waiting. Kira found her standing there, a paragon of patience.  Kira embraced source and wove a sphere of privacy, inverting the weaves. Women embracing the power here wasn’t an odd thing and would draw no attention. A privacy shield would. No matter what - this was a private moment. Kira even masked the bond so her new warder wouldn’t be able to feel her emotions so much. She hoped he trusted her when she had said this was private. The whole thing was so new, he might not even notice the return to normalcy so much.

Kira moved to Faedre, her steps moving with an excitement she couldn’t hide. Tower politics and Aes Sedai serenity dictated her behavior would be frowned upon if someone had noticed, and Kira could mask her emotions as well as the best of them. She wouldn’t for Faedre though. She was too important for that.  The two had found each other through similar stories. Both had their lives taken away when they had found they could channel. They had become a comfort to one another. Days and nights spent together because they had needed it

Kira took Faedre’s hands into her own as she arrived. ”Faedre,” Kira said her name quietly - almost a whisper as if she didn’t even want the trees around them to hear. For awhile, silence remained between them as Kira moved her fingers across the other woman’s knuckles. Silence was never awkward between them. Kira met her gaze and her heart skipped a beat. It always did. They had been pillow friends, but Kira always wondered if it had been more, or simply if Faedre had felt the same. ”I’ve missed you.”

The words radiated truth. Kira had spent many nights thinking of her friend. She told herself that she had needed this journey, and she had, but seeing Faedre now sans the Accepted dress made her wonder if she should have waited.  Waited long enough so Faedre could have joined her.  She tried to remember the litany “The Wheel weaves as the Wheel wills” to banish the thought.  It didn’t work.

”My trip took longer than expected,” she said plainly.  It had been mostly because of her inability to look away of someone was sick or hurting. One hand let go of Faedre’s and moved to her face, a thumb gently caressing Faedre’s cheek. ”I missed your raising. I was very selfish. I’m sorry.” Kira felt truthfully sad and remorseful about that, and she couldn’t keep if from her eyes and voice. She should have waited to go t Tear. Maybe Faedre could have found some closure too.
