New Year, New Journal (Izmailovsky Market)
#17
She listened quietly, hands wrapped around her mug. She had expected to hear about hobbies beyond the work that shaped her life – a glimpse into the woman beneath the musician. The inner changes in Casey’s life must be important to mention twice, and if Seren suspected it was her own presence bringing them to the fore, it seemed a natural pivot in the other woman’s life. Nothing unnatural, just the right time for epiphany and acceptance.

The compliment made her smile, though it was down at her tea, not in shyness or rejection but maintenance of her gift. Casey’s Glimmer was still soft, an attraction on its own terms, not spiked or manipulated. But she’d been wary since Theo, not just of the way things could blaze if she let them, but also of something inside of herself that grew tired of the constant adjustments and self-censorship. “A lucky day all round then,” she said. The moment was nice, and she didn’t want to ruin it.
