The kids came out and loaded into the truck quickly. The older ones were able to keep the younger ones from looking at the corpse of the whatever it was. Olivier pulled out quickly. The going was slow. The snow was beginning to come down.
”Olivier,” he introduced himself. ”What’s your name, kid,” he asked as he drove.
He looked at Olivier, adjusting his arm so he could keep pressure off of the fracture. ”Pavel - Pavel Volkov. I’m 17. That’s my brother Yarik, he’s 13. Ruslan is 8. And our sister Alicia is 6.”
Pavel winced in pain and Olivier gestured to the first aid kit. ”Pain killers in there.”
Pavel whispered thanks and took a couple. ”What was that thing? And…” he looked in the back seat. His siblings had fallen asleep. ”Whats going to happen to us?”
Olivier looked somber. ”I don’t know. Never seen anything like it. You’re all minors - you’ll probably be taken to a shelter of some sorts.” the engine coughed and sputtered. ”I don’t think we’re going to make it to the city though. We make for the castle.” he gestured to the structure. Olivier had no idea what was there. But it was shelter. It would have to do for now.
