Anton looked at his gloved hands. Calli had understood right away what his meaning had been. Lucien had worn gloves as well. Anton had no idea what the other man could do. Lucien hadn't offered and Anton hadn't asked. "No, not always. Touching others tends to be more of a thought out plan than something I do spontaneously. I'm okay with it as long as I know it's coming. Not a big fan of being surprised by it though." Knowing touch was coming meant he could prepare for it.
Calli listened with rapt attention, and Anton was aware of her head tilt when he went on to tell the story of Orpheus. She had at least sensed the shift, but she didn't interrupt or question it. Calli wasn't dismissive either. It was a load off to know that she didn't. He had been worried about that. Reincarnation was something that most didn't believe in, but as he had told Lucien if you eliminate all other possibilities, what remains must be the truth. There could possibly be other explanations, but for now, it felt right to sit with this one.
He gave a smile to her response. "Astute observation," he said. He liked Calli - she spoke simply and true. That was something commendable. "Well if it's true and I carry the soul of Orpheus, it's entirely possible, maybe even likely that Eurydice is out there too. Finding her would be difficult," he said, his face darkening a little as he turned away. Given his ability, romantic relationships had always been difficult for him. It wasn't just that the likelihood of a soul mate was an entirely unlikely thing in general that brought that to mind. "But I think there is truth in your words. The story is continuing through me. Who knows where it will take me. Perhaps his moment of doubt was brought to me at this time as a warning - or simply a reminder."
Anton turned back to her with a smile. "But that's enough about me for now. Your turn...tell me about Calli."
