The anger that should have flared at being called a mistake slide around like it was nothing but melting ice-cream on a hot plate. But the thought of her death brought Aria fear. She didn't want to die. It was twice in one conversation she had been told her life was worthless. Reality was finally setting in, the bold confidence of moments ago flitted away like a pretty little butterfly.

At the obvious dismissal Aria grabbed the letter sitting crumbled on Father Dimtri's desk. She didn't ask permission, nor did she care if he struck her down now. All Aria wanted to do was begone, before the world turned even more sideways.

Aria thought she heard something as she closed the door behind her, but she disregarded the sound and walked quickly away. She didn't want to know. The walk back to the little room that was once home was filled with dread as reality crashed in on Aria's world.

Not only had she found out that she was a monster to be hunted, but she was now tasked with hunting the greatest of all monsters and worse yet, that it would be her own undoing.

The door to her room was left flung wide and the lights flickered as they swayed in the breeze from the ventilation units. Aria stood staring into the empty room. Aria shut the door softly behind her and leaned against it. The fury and rage drained completely away. The lies she'd been told were nothing but a ruse to hide who, no what she was. Her training had been a hope, a hope that she was not Sentient. But in the end it was all for not. Sadness and despair trickled in to Aria's bubble. Reality was there was little left in life for her. Even if she survived Ascendancy, would Regus let her live? What use would she have if the danger had been averted.

Aria slide down the door and sat curled up in a ball against the door on the cold cement floor. Everything was a lie. Aria let the world in, let the pain, the suffering, the happiness and the hope in. The church was in full session, she hadn't realized it was Sunday. The people above her were joyous in Gods presence. The choir sang beautiful melodies that Aria could only feel the depths of their devotion.

God gave them hope. But Apollyon would destroy that hope. Aria got up, wiped the tears she had not realized she had shed from her cheeks and gathered her things. This was home no longer, there was nothing here to make it so.

Aria tucked the journals of her ancestors into her bags and left the Vatican's depths. There was work to be done, and it couldn't be done from a cement room. What was left of her life had to be lived, and she had to at least try to bring him down. She didn't let the doubt emerge. She pushed it back. She would take him down. The statement rang through Aria's head, perhaps there was more than one him to remove from power.
