"Go - I'll be fine. You were holding us together when Rachel was struggling. You need some time alone." Emily's words from earlier rattled in his head. "The Country Club should be fun - drink and have fun."
Jared could understand why she said it. He wasn't really wanting to go, but some semblance of alone time would be a good thing for Jared. The pregnancy excuse didn't work. Emily was doing fine and she had Mara to make sure she was fine. If anything happened, Mara would tell her, but it was still odd to be away from Emily. They had been damn near inseparable since they met.
Jared had been here before, but never by himself. He had always come with Emily and other members of the family. He showed his card to the woman at the desk and entered. The bar sounded good. A drink sounded good. He headed to the bar. "Scotch, neat," he ordered.
It wasn't top shelf, but it was higher than what he used to drink. Being married to one of the richest people on the planet had allowed him to try more. You got what you paid for it seemed, but he still couldn't justify an insane amount for a glass of liquor unless it was a special occasion. There was another patron at the bar and Jared nodded to him in greeting. He thanked the bartender as he brought his drink and took a sip.
