I wouldn't worry about writing style. No one is going to be a critic. The only real rule is it's 3rd person POV.
We color our dialog. I'm not sure why it's just something everyone does. It's fun to pick a color. You can check out

Easiest way to think about FA (for me) is Supernatural with a Wheel of Time twist set in a very near future world. ← is why I joined FA way back when.
* The USA is dystopian at this point, Moscow is the center of the world.
* Texas is part of the CCD (the empire the Ascendancy runs)
* Monster are real but not everyone knows it.
* Magic is real and it's new to everyone especially the mundane.
* Magic is channeling except there is no white tower or black tower to teach anyone.
* Most channelers are wilders (meaning they sparked before knowing what they are doing and they have a block.)
* We are allowing those who can learn to channel now but there is currently no way to detect if a person can learn, and no one has really learned they can learn yet, but those characters do exist.
* You can be a new channeler who sparks in game and can be taught by finding a teacher and doesn't go through more than one sickness phase and doesn't have a block.
* We have a group of monster hunters called the Atharim, there are lots of factions inside it. Their primary goal is to hunt and kill Gods (aka Channelers) and their creations (monsters).
* We have a few other classes of characters of the supernatural variety wolfkin, dreamwalkers, prophets, singers, faun, fury, sentient (i know I'll miss a few). We can give you a run down if any of them sound fun.
And if I'm being "pushy" please please say so. It's not often we get real new blood who might stick around

So it's exciting to have potential new writers.
