House Thorne

House Thorne was among Andor’s Great Houses, with a lineage tracing back to the early consolidation of the realm. The house held extensive western territories near Caemlyn, including forestlands and strategic approaches to the River Arinelle. Traditionally, House Thorne maintained one of the best-trained private forces in Andor, supplying skilled archers to the Crown in times of war.

Early Life and Training

Daveth Thorne was born in Caemlyn, heir to House Thorne, but from an early age rejected the expectation that his role would be primarily political. While he received the full education of a high noble—law, history, and court etiquette—his focus remained fixed on the profession of arms.

Rather than serving symbolic terms, Daveth enlisted formally with the Queen’s Guard in his youth, undertaking the same training and discipline as common soldiers. He distinguished himself quickly as an archer of exceptional control and endurance, gaining a reputation for calm command and meticulous preparation. His decision to remain in active service, even after attaining his majority, marked him as an anomaly among Andoran high nobility.

Military Career

Daveth Thorne spent the majority of his adult life in the field. He served in border patrols, internal security operations, and campaigns against bandit lords destabilizing Andor during periods of political unrest. Over time, he rose to command mixed formations of Guardsmen and Thorne retainers, eventually holding the rank of Captain within his house’s forces. His preference for disciplined archery formations and controlled terrain engagements became a defining feature of his command style.

Amelia Thorne

When Elyane Trakand moved to take the Lion Throne, House Thorne was visited by someone who had been considered a legend in their house – the Aes Sedai, Amelia Thorne. Daveth had only heard of her, but like most modern members of the Thorne family, had not had the pleasure of meeting her. As a skilled soldier, Daveth was appointed as her personal guard during her time in Andor, as she had no Warder.

Journey to Shienar

As tensions arose with war and Lady Graciela of Shienar asked for assistance in defending the Borderlands, Daveth felt the call to serve once more. With the permission of Lord Hareth Thorne, head of the Thorne family, Daveth took a contingent of Thorne archers and joined Lord Leodon Taravin’s forces on the journey to defend the Borderlands from the shadow.
