“When the scales break, the sword rules.”
The Vidient are the descendants not of Pandora herself, but of the shards of her Mirror, which shattered when she looked upon its forbidden reflection. Each shard carried with it a single, pure emotion untouched by mortal complexity. No Vidient perceives the entirety of human emotion; each carries only a fragment, as incomplete as the mirror itself. Yet in that fragment lies clarity beyond mortal ken.
The Scorching Halo displays the flame of moral fury. Behind every person, a ring of light flickers — steady white-gold when justice guides them, fractured crimson when rage consumes them. The just shine with a perfect circle, unbroken and serene. The wrathful blaze with chaotic fire, their halo jagged like shattered embers.
Vidients of the Halo often serve as arbiters, peacekeepers, or tyrant-breakers. They alone perceive when righteousness becomes wrath, or wrath masquerades as righteousness.
IV. The Scorching Halo
“Justice / Rage”
Formal Name: Lapis Iudicii
Spectrum: Righteousness ↔ Wrath
Vidient Gift:
- Perceives the desire for fairness or vengeance
- Can sharpen moral clarity or inflame anger
- Righteous anger or uncontrolled violence results
A Halo-Vidient can:
- Cool or redirect destructive anger
- Strengthen resolve toward fairness and accountability
- Sense when someone’s moral certainty is genuine or corrupted
They cannot:
- Decide what “justice” means for others
- Instantly pacify violent individuals
- Dictate moral outcomes
Visual Perception: This shard manifests as light encircling a person’s head like a halo. Justice appears in a pattern of straight white-gold lines, forming scales or geometric shapes around the brow. When someone is righteous, the lines align perfectly symmetrically. In wrath the lines begin to shatter or distort, eventually dissolving into violent sparks which branch and fracture unpredictably throughout the whole body. The luminosity of the halo itself brightens or burns depending on the purity — or fury — of the emotion beneath. Vidients may temper the fire into steady purpose… or fan it into destructive wrath.
Overall Vision: Every person carries a crown of fire—balanced or burning. When someone feels neither justice nor rage, the halo dims from sight, and may not be perceived by the Vidient at all.
Possible Additional Senses: Justice feels like a balanced, warm pressure around the head. Rage feels like heat behind the eyes—hard to ignore, harder to resist.
Perception Risks, Righteous Blindness: Justice and rage are twins, and a Vidient who loses balance may mistake fury for righteousness. Once blinded, the Vidient becomes convinced they alone perceive “true justice,” losing the ability to keep a check on their own anger. Every disagreement looks like injustice to them. Rage masquerades as moral clarity until they burn everything around them.
Commonly Observed Behaviours: Principled, argumentative, and quick to react. They despise unfairness yet struggle not to overreach when anger flares around them. They often serve as judges, warriors, or zealots.
