He mentioned Saidin. So it appears the powers havent been smushed together.

The separate powers are also mentioned in one of the Origin animations. As is the term "raised to the shawl" for AS.

Glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t see Laila as a DF. I agree that people are looking for a “reason” to negate the blame in some way. It still annoys the hell out of me though, haha. I don’t know how you can watch the way she is with him, and the way she charges at the trolloc like her world is ending when he falls, and decide that she’s turned on him a moment later. Surely if nothing else, it’s clear that Perrin himself would have realised in the same moment he struck her that she was trying to kill him, if that was the case. He sees her with the hammer raised before she drops it and falls.

Anyway, as you’ve both said, showing the long-term effects and doing them justice is definitely the caveat. I also hope they do it well. The point about it being the realisation of his worst fear, and where do you go from there, is a good one. I guess by the time he comes to care for Faile, the fear of it happening again would be excruciating for him (he knows his capabilities now, but more importantly so do the viewers: that will be the stake, will he do it again?). And then you ultimately have the Wheel and suffering motif again. Can he stop history repeating? Does he deserve to allow himself the chance?

How he resolves/reconciles/forgives himself? That’s the million dollar question.

Love it or hate it (or like us waiting to see what the show does) I think Faile is precisely why they used Laila and not Luhan.

Can't really argue with this at all. If that is the case- and more importantly- if they execute it well- then this can be an amazing storyline. But they have a lot of stuff riding on their execution. Because if it fails, well, it was because they introduced somethign that wasn't there before. Which makes it worse because if they had just done what they had to to show Perrin's struggle it could have been enough.

Still, the whole series is a driving for the fences, so no holding back. I really am hopeful they can do it.

I didn't notice it either, not until I was looking back specifically for evidence of df stuff.

In the books am I right in thinking Perrin remarks that he liked her and she liked him but they fizzled out, and she hung onto the feeling longer than him?

I now wonder if it's intended to be far simpler and their scenes aren't supposed to hint at a lost pregnancy or anything tragic at all, but are just meant to show a couple who got married too young, who still care for each other, but are now struggling with growing apart. Laila is holding on tighter to the relationship than Perrin. Just like the books suggest would have happened.

The hands on stomach shot might just be meant to highlight her holding his finger, given its repetition.

In any case I suppose it makes sense they wouldn't want to present Laila as the love of Perrin's life.
