Viracocha was the most important deity in the Inca pantheon and seen as the creator of all things, or the substance from which all things are created, and intimately associated with the sea. He created the universe, sun, moon, and stars, time, and civilization itself. He was worshipped as god of the sun and of storms, and was represented as wearing the sun for a crown, with thunderbolts in his hands, and tears descending from his eyes as rain.

According to myth, Viracocha rose from Lake Titicaca during the time of darkness to bring forth light.

6th Age

Viracocha ruled a vast Incan Empire, having originally come from humble beginnings by the sea. He was considered a benevolent ruler, in contrast to some of the other Meso-American channelers of the time. A chance encounter while travelling led to his discovery of the enchanted lands of the Kalina goddess Amana. She became his wife, and known among the Incan people as Mama Qucha, a goddess of the sea. Together they had two sons, however spent much time apart due to Amana’s responsibilities to her own people.

For what time they had together, they were happy.

Civil War

When civil war erupted, Viracocha and Amana did what they could to stem it and protect both their peoples. However in the end Amana and her two sons were killed. The loss destroyed Viracocha, who burned himself out, and was later killed by a mortal man, among the first who would later call themselves Atharim.

Many legends spread about Viracocha, among them some credited him with the creation of mindless giants that displeased him. In these legends he used the flood to rid the world of the beasts and start a new world with smaller creations. It is said that he then sent Manco Capac and Mama Ocllo to bring civilization to the world. In others, his sons were named Imahmana and Tocapo.

In the end, Viracocha was said to have walked across the waters, disappearing over the Pacific Ocean. It is said he wandered the earth disguised as a beggar, teaching his new creations the basics of civilization, as well as working numerous miracles. Some still believe that Viracocha will re-appear in times of trouble.
