S3 E5 Spoilers......
Rand playing with the kids was adorable. And Moiraine’s blue silk dress was so pretty. The design of Cold Rocks Hold was cool. Nice touch having Bair and Chaid running while Faile rode the horse. It cracked me up that Egwene said she wouldnt enter TAR again without the wise ones and yet like the next day does that exact same thing. I was so amused to see Egwene’s clothes change to her Amyrlin Armor! I loved the ghosties running through TAR, which had this tinkling musical jingle, stuff knocking over, creepy doll… the vibes were scary and awesome. The scene with Elaida and Adaleas was perfection. Mat-Nyn-Elayne-Min was just fun times. They are killing the group rapport. The Sea Folk made me jump up out of my seat and squeal. Given the Atha’an Miere are my favorite culture in all of WoT, I was so happy to see them finally introduced! I loved their costumes (thank you Sharon for not making them topless!—that was such a creepy thing in the books). Their jewelry and hair were stunning, and the sailmistress yelling at the sailor. gosh i can’t wait to see more of them. The Windfinder’s channeling was so beautiful. It was like an aurora and so different than the Aes Sedai and Forsaken ways. Loved it. Cant wait to see more! “there are many ways to be a channeler. Many ways to be a woman” The whitecloaks and everything that happened there was suitably horrific. I was a little on Bornhold’s side (especially since he gave the girls water) until the business with Nattie. Now I hate him again. So this aiel lady that is chatting up Lan is giving me all kinds of darkfriend vibes. I even get the sense that Lan senses she’s not what she says she is. I will say that if she is like 60 years old, she’s in great shape. The scene with Moiraine and Lan drinking oosquai was so sweet. I am so glad they were able to squeeze in introducing oosquai into the show. I’ve noticed a few times some book stuff was squeezed in seamlessly. For instance, Mat starting to curse “mother’s milk in a cup” and Min’s “blood and ashes”. Just little sprinkles like that made me so happy. Anyway, them choking on the oosquai made me so happy. Min’s drawings were like seeing Thalia come to life! Mat’s misinterpretation of the hanging was clever. It reminds you that there are so many interpretations. The gray man creepy crawling on all fours was chilling. Alanna’s fog was awesome. Child Byar! omg he was bone chillingly nasty. Gave me disguised Byron vibes. Alanna was a BEAST Faile was a BEAST Maksim rushing back to save her was pure warder energy. Then Alanna ripping an arrow out of herself and throwing it at a whitecloak with the OP was such Green energy. I notice that when Lanfear is with Rand in the dream, she’s in her soft-feminine Cairhienin clothes of the current age when she wants to manipulate him. When she’s in her forsaken AoL get-up was when she was wanting to control him. But she learned it doesnt work, so she shifted tactics. And it works. Rand falls for her ‘soft’ version, rather than the ruthless evil Forsaken version, which is what she wears when she’s torturing Egwene—which is obviously who she truly is. I appreciate that the cinematography differentiates the real world from the dream. It’s glowy and light, a little echo, and you can just sense its different. And when Egwene’s clothes shifted into her armor, i was so happy. The music this season is different too. Its prettier. I recognize the themes, like the amyrlin’s theme but its modified, sadder yet hopeful, ethereal and dreamy. But there are more sinister tunes. When Egwene starts hopping from dream to dream, theres this distinct LotR sounding tune in the background. It just sounds more upscale than in the past. There is even a pretty tune playing over the credits. I need the lyrics! Egwene watching everyone’s dreams seemed so motherly. AND OMG HOPPER. Okay E5 was good for me.

Season 3 Episode 6 Spoilers…
This season is what I wanted in the series. I’m seeing so many things I want to see. Rand with the Aiel girl is amazing (ji e toh) and makes it super heartbreaking at the end. The “Care for the Living, Weep for the Dead Later” vibe in the two rivers scenes makes me happy as a big Perrin fan. Yay for return of Thom Merrillin. I’m a big fan of the “Hills of Tanchico” So I’ve been doing theater work and one thing we tell actors is to overact and we’ll pull you back. I’m pretty sure they told that to Moghedian and they never pulled her back. Because everytime I see her, I swear she’s more cray cray.

E5 & 6 spoilers, because I watched them together and I already forget what happened in which episode
Suian and Moiraine’s “I’ll find you in the next life” was sadness, but also very beautiful. The aiel kid Asera stole the show. Love the depiction of TAR. I thought the same thing with Min’s drawings XD I really like that some of the more annoying book chars have been made much more relatable. Elaida is great and seems genuinely formidable rather than the caricature she came across in the books. And Moggy is both competent and creepy (and crazy in a way that actually feels threatening). In the books it was hard to imagine how she even ended up a Forsaken. Finally a mention of saidin and saidar. I actually like the adjustment they have made there and that it reinforces how much knowledge has been lost since the AoL. And since men and women can both see the others’ weaves it makes sense in the context of the show. I wonder if they will have Nynaeve break her block when she learns to control saidar rather than submit to it – something the WT would never have been able to teach her, and ties in with what the seafolk lady said about there being multiple ways to be a channeler and a woman. The Malkieri aiel lady seemed odd to me too, she doesn’t look old enough at all, plus it’s just weird and convenient. She introduced herself as Melindra in the sweat tent so I agree she’s a DF, since in the books that’s the lady who seduces and tries to kill Mat. Tanchican people all having scouse accents made me giggle. The fashion doesn’t look like I imagined and I wasn’t sure about it in the trailer but in context I liked it. Curious to see how the slums contrast with the nobility in terms of fashion. Did Lanfear say to Moiraine in the dream that she was sending Rand a surprise and not to interfere? I spent the rest of the ep waiting for Asmo lol. Sammy storming in was very off character, but I guess they gave him Rahvin’s end. I’ve always liked the music. I agree it seems slightly different this season. There are more songs with english lyrics this time around too, as well as the old tongue ones. The Hills of Tanchico is an earworm. Is this the ep5 credits song? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bv_BRzo4P8M Pretty sure “Debt Soon Paid” has also been used in the ending credits, though I can’t remember which episode. “Bring the Dawn” is probably my favourite from the ones released this season.

Well "hat guy" didn't turn out to be Asmo, at least not yet. I spy a really cool hat on Thom's head that I have a feeling is going to become Mat's famous hat!
Sammy's appearance and then subsequent 'death' seemed really fast. I wonder if it's a RAFO and see if he's really dead. I did love that battle, though. Avi's flaming spears made me jump up and fist pump. Tanchico gives me really strong New Orleans voodoo vibes. I love the variety and types of face coverings. Sometimes they're full creepy masks and sometimes beautiful sheer veils. I can't wait to see the Panarch's palace and nobility. Mat wearing the heavily beaded veil that denoted how much "you're worth" was a great moment. The Hills of Tanchico was a superb moment. Loved it. There was actual giggling in my household. I kinda thought that they would merge Demandred and Sammael's plots into one character, but if Sammy is actually dead, then I am wagering the last forsaken to be revealed will be Demandred, even though I would rather see Asmo. However, if it is Asmo and they kill him off in season 4, I'll be disappointed. So I'd rather have 5 more seasons of Demmy and see him in the Last Battle than a few episodes of Asmo. So far with the villains they've done a great job giving each a distinct flavor of evil. so they'll have to make Semi sadistic in a different way from Moggy's creepiness. Don't know how though. Faile is perfect in the show. I am not a book-Faile fan, so bravo to the show for making me not hate her character. The last two episodes are gonna be busy. I am betting E7 is primarily Two Rivers. It makes sense given the title of the ep is "goldeneyes". I doubt the whole ep is all about him though like how E4 was all Rand. So they'll likely advance the other two plots sprinkled in throughout. I bet the finale will give us the Couladin and Rand showdown, Moiraine and Lanfear's battle/demise, Nyn vs Moggy (hopefully they will collar Moggy), Liandrin's death, and Mat's hanging. I am thinking the red stone doorway is in the Panarch's palace and he goes through it there. Side-note, the flashback with Ishy helping Liandrin was awesome. I loved it and was totally not expecting it at all. Fares Fares is 1000% awesome.

Ah yeah, I can totally see the new New Orleans voodoo vibes now that you've said that! I thought the same thing with the hat lol.
Sammy's death did seem fast. I wondered if it was real, but he looked pretty dead under the rubble at the end. Associating him with the Shaido and leaving Couladin as the legacy of that might be all they intend to do. I'd be surprised if we get any of the Shara stuff in the show, I can't see how they'd set any of it up with how short the seasons are, and they've already repurposed sakarnen (and merged it and callandor with the choedan kal?). I feel like they already gave some of Demandred's motivations and background to Lanfear and Ishy tbh (the possibility of redemption for love, and the past life friends to enemies rivalry). Taim can probably mop up anything else, and he's already had a name drop. Omg, the Liandrin flashback reminded me how much I have a weird crush on Fares Fares as Ishy lol. I reckon we'll see Asmo this season, assuming Lanfear said what I thought she said. But the statue with the guitar convinces me the last one will be Asmo regardless of when he's introduced. With Rand's meltdown, a teacher will be needed now more than ever, especially since Moiraine is highly likely to bite it this season. And it pushes Rand further down the "dark" path in Lanfear's absence.

MV had an interesting theory. Perhaps if they do go with Demmy, they'll merge him into a Taimandred story line! wouldn't that be funny.
But yeah you're right that the statue with the guitar is awful telling.... But Lanfear could give Couladin his false dragon tattoos if not Asmo. But you're also right, not sure what Demy could add to the story if we don't do Shara, et al. ‡‡ GRYM ‡‡

Even without Demandred as a Forsaken I could see them merging him into Taim, but imo if they do it’ll only be in the sense of making Taim’s motivations for betraying the Light and being elevated to a new Chosen explicitly out of jealousy of Rand. The same Demmy jealousy but without the AoL life. Since Taim and Demandred probably were the same person up until Jordan refuted it (or *cough* just changed his mind lol) I agree it’d be a nice fan nod. I really like Demandred’s story but to do it justice would be a lot of screen time, and ultimately I’d rather they devote that time to the more central chars and plots. For non-book show fans, Shara would just be completely left field to dump into the LB. It kinda was even in the books.
Could they infer Sammy did Couladin’s dragons now that they’ve shown he was there and allied with the Shaido? If the choedan kal doesn’t exist (or is just the sakarnen, which Moiraine has) then Asmo’s motivations for going to Rhuidean in the first place are gone. No idea how they’ll handle Rand severing Asmo’s connection to the DO though, unless they just don’t address it and have him leveraged by Lanfear somehow. No idea. Or maybe Asmo will try and steal the sakarnen from Moiraine? I checked, and Lanfear’s words to Moiraine in the dream were: “I’m sending a little surprise. Let him handle it. I know that’s difficult for you.” That’s what made me think she meant Asmodean. But maybe she just meant Sammy’s attack.

Now im wondering if the thing Lanfear says she's sending Rand wasn't Sammael at all.
Moggy says in the scene with Ispen that Sammael "will do something soon, I know it. So impatient." Im guessing Sammy acted on his own. I bet Lanfear's statement alludes to something else (Asmo?). |
