It looks like the chat network we are using is slowly becoming defunct.

I can no longer log in, the website for the network no longer exists. (Meaning I no longer have control of ops or ownership of our channel)

So before we completely lose access I'd like to move. We can go to another irc network or we can move to discord which we already have set up.

Yes gang, please chime in!

We definitely have to change up the chat. If you have a preference between discord and irc, please say so here.

I’m open pretty much to either/or.

That being said - I have discord on my phone so I’d basically always be in chat lol. So I lean a little more that way. If the majority is on for irc - I’d be game for that as well and will still come in!

I'm gonna say I lean towards discord mostly cause I don't have to do any set up for it cause it's already done, and like gio said I'm always there already so it's easier to chat when someone pops in.

But I know there are preferences towards not having to have credentials and such.

For those of you who like to keep your anonymity, Discord has the ability to have multiple accounts you can switch between. I have 3 personal ones but I'm only ever in one. Nox has his own account. I have one as my pen name and then my main one which I'm in most everything in. But it's not a casual pop in like irc is, which I know Asc likes.

Would prefer irc

I use the discord for thread notifications so am also always logged in, but it never really took off for chat when we tried it before

Ultimately this and the anonymity Nox mentioned are the reasons why I could go both ways. Mostly I just want everyone to feel comfortable there and to not feel discouraged.

I know - my answer is either and might not be helpful :-p

I am looking into different irc servers. ircnet doesn't let you register nick names or channels so anyone could take a nick or the channel and I don't like that too much, specially if there are malicious folks out there.

dalnet lets you register nicks and channels but Nox is taken, so I'm sad. I wouldn't even know what to use otherwise.

I will check a few others out to see what I can find. Then I need to remember how to change the settings in the lounge and will have to update fabot. Because we have fabot, we could easily just use ircnet and have him assign me ops and he'll automatically op in when he resets so he should always be able to assign ops. (sorry you don't really care mostly rubber ducking...)

ircnet is looking to be the better choice if we go with irc. Which is totally fine with me. I know discord has its issues.

FOR NOW:

Until the mibbit network completely fails we are going to stay there.

I can look for irc alternatives that will work.

FAbot should always have ops. And he should be able to assign myself, Asc and Thal ops so that a real person when they are in has control. Only time we'll lose fabot ops is if he restarts while someone is in the room. Then we'll have problems getting the room back under our control but we've not seen a lot of spammers lately so that's good.

So given that the mobile apps had a hard time getting in, we moved servers.

The web chat is already changed so you can just click and go.

For those who are using apps the new address is

irc.ircnet.com

You only should need to change the server in your app.

Heya - just thought I’d post this because I don’t know if there is an issue or not. I was unable to connect to chat last night after I got done with bowling. I’m wondering if it’s an issue because there were no operators in the room. Like I said A not sure if it’s a problem or not A just thought I’d bring it up and letting smarter people know lol.
